A striking foliage plant of architectural value in the garden. From rich, glossy, deeply cut, dark green leaves rise stately stout columnar stems, carrying huge spires of hooded flowers. Each with a curved purple bract, sheltering a white petal, which protrudes like a tongue, but also protects the stamens and stigmas inside. Good seedheads.
