Blechnum chilense

From damp woods of central Chile; a magnificent evergreen fern for a cool, damp site. The great fronds look as if they were stamped out of dark, matt-green leather. Undulating edges only add to the effect. Handsome in rich soil or by waterside. The strong roots spread slowly. Can be cut down in the spring, giving the new fronds a clear path to emerge.
