Chionodoxa

Early spring flowering bulbs, which have now been renamed under Scilla. Tending to be smaller plants, with starry or bell-shaped flowers, often blue. Looking amazing en-masse, as early colour in your border, or for naturalising in grass. Looking particularly fine with Narcissus (daffodils).

The welcome early season flowers of glory-of-the-snow provide an irresistible attraction to honeybees in particular, a vital resource at what can be a difficult time of the year. S. forbesii is not infrequently found naturalized in grassy habitats outside gardens but does not appear to be posing an ecological threat.
