Darmera

A single species from Western USA. Clusters of pink flowers, on tall bare stems, in spring. Followed by large rounded leaves, again on long stalks, sometimes colouring up in autumn.

With showy heads of flowers early in the season, Darmera is an important plant for pollinators such as bees, flies and butterflies in damp areas. The leaves which follow form dense patches and provide shelter for amphibians and wetland invertebrates. It seems to be spreading in damp habitats in the wild, but is not of serious concern as it seems generally unable to set seed.
