An interesting, almost succulent-type dianthus from Crete. Narrow, green-blue foliage and pink flowers with a white eye. It has come through one winter (mild) with us, on a south facing slope in a well-drained position. Thus best tried in a sheltered spot.
Received as D. arborescens from Peter Janke of Hortus Nursery, Germany, from a collection in Nopigia, NW Crete. However D. arborescens (or D. rupicola) is not native to Crete, but D. fruticosus is.
