Fleshy rooted woodland with slender running rhizomes. Branched stems of oblong-elliptic leaves somewhat variable in shape, bearing terminal clusters of creamy-white flared pendent flowers in spring. Followed by small black berries. Easily grown in a humus rich soil in full to light shade.
