An excellent foliage plant, with the crinkled new leaves emerging with a wonderful purple hue, before greening up later in the year. Small spikes of hooded, yellow flowers in autumn are a bonus. With us it has thrived in an open position, but with good moisture. In drier spots a little dappled shade would be preferred.
