Remarkable foliage effect like colonies of small conifer seedlings, or bottlebrushes, its many stems clothed in dark blue/grey leaves, the top tufts stained maroon. Has the normal lime-green flower heads. The soft-yellow or apricot flowers, with red eyes of Potentilla tonguei, planted nearby, look good sprawling through it. Foliage good all summer. Short running stems, once established, difficult to remove. Flowers spring-early summer. Harmful if eaten. Skin and eye irritant.
