Makes spreading patches of grassy-leafed shoots which send up slender spires of slim buds. Throughout autumn and mild days in winter they open glistening shallow cups, jewel-like and cherry-red. They need moisture all summer but also warmth to encourage early flowering. Synonym Schizostylis coccinea 'Major'.
