Description
A very vigorous grower. Self-supporting leafy stems carry massed heads of guardsman-red flowers springing from brownish knobby centres. Summer into autumn flowering. Introduced by Piet Oudolf.
The previous name 'Squaw' is offensive to Native American peoples. As Piet Oudolf was the breeder of this particular cultivar, he has agreed to a new name which is now Monarda didyma x fistulosa 'Oneida.' This is fitting as the Oneida believe monardas are the sixth plant given to them by the creator for medicinal purposes.
