A splendid feature plant. In its first year forms a rosette of huge spiny leaves, copiously felted with white down. The towering flower stem is statuesque, carved out of stiff white felt, topped with pale lilac thistle flowers. A biennial, seeding freely. Midsummer to autumn. A native of the East Anglian Brecks.
