Beth felt very sentimental about this plant which was given her, under the name 'Sour Grapes' by Vita Sackville-West. It is likely that it should be called 'Stapleford Gem'. Having sent out possibly thousands as 'Sour Grapes' Beth was reluctant to change and confuse many gardeners. P. 'Sour Grapes' (P. 'Stapleford Gem') is a beautiful plant, hardy on well-drained soil. The flowers are like unripe grapes or opals, soft green, amethyst and blue, opening from mid summer all through autumn.
