From base of handsome large tooth-edged leaves rise dark purple branching stems carrying at intervals whorls of soft-lilac tubular flowers. A superb vertical for the dry sunny garden. Ornamental seedhead but is a mule, i.e. does not set seed. A rare plant selected by Ernst Pagels, N. Germany. Synonym Phlomis tuberosa 'Amazone'.
