Clump forming, lupin-like perennial with trifoliate leaves. Blooming alongside daffodils and tulips, unbranched spikes of soft yellow flowers emerge from greyish-purple buds which are held above the foliage. A cheerful, easy plant to welcome spring. The Chinese false lupin, similar to Thermopsis lupinoides but this has a more northerly distribution in Alaska and Siberia.
