A lupin-like plant found in the wild from Alaska and Siberia so is fully hardy. Almost black, slightly hairy stems carrying narrow heads of pale lemon-yellow pea-flowers held in conspicuous dark green calyces. The stems are clothed in trifoliate leaves. Total effect is very handsome in late spring. This is thriving is an open site in our reservoir garden and is a clump forming species, unlike some which can travel.
