The flowers of Zantesdeschia, although not producing nectar, are visited by insects, especially beetles, and the parts of the plants growing in water provide structure to the aquatic environment that affords refuge for amphibians and invertebrates from the attentions of predatory fishes. Z aethiopica is increasingly being found in the wild where it can dominate natural watercourses: all steps should be taken to avoid it spreading from gardens.
