An unusual species iris, with petals of equal size, opening to a shallow-bowl shape. Orange, but heavily spotted with red. Takes a richer soil than the bearded irises. From eastern Asia, but still fully hardy. One of the parents of I. × norrisii, the candy lily. (Synonym Belamcanda chinensis).
