A bulbous perennial with narrow grey-green leaves and spikes of many star-shaped, greenish white flowers. From the western US states typically growing in open situations, like hillsides, meadows, but also forests. It will also grow in soils with ample moisture. Part of the Melanthiaceae family, which includes other intruiging genera Trillium, Paris, Veratrum. May also be known as Anticlea elegans. Caution: toxic if eaten. Take care when handling.
