At all stages of growth this is an intriguing plant. Newly emerging leaves are tightly wrapped, glossy, almost reptilian. Deeply lobed, leaves unfurl, mottled purple. During late spring, if you peek beneath the leaves, large white or pink cup-shaped flowers are lurking. After the leaves expand further, bright red egg shaped fruits during late summer into autumn. The plant enjoys a dappled shade spot, in a good soil. If raised up on a a bank, it may show off the fruits and flowers to a greater extent.
