Recent jobs in the garden

Ben and Ned have been working hard rejuvenating the lawns. They started by verti draining - a process which spikes lots of deep holes into the lawn to help relieve compaction, allowing oxygen to get to the roots and aid water drainage. It was then top dressed with sand to again help with drainage and further improve the soil structure.

The garden team continued the preparation work ahead of replanting shade bed two in the Water Garden. They removed masses of ground covering symphytum and lamium which had begun to dominate the space. Clumps of Maclaya microcarpa 'Spetchley Ruby' was also dug out and repositioned as it had wandered too close to the front of the border. Shade bed two will be replanted soon, so watch this space!

It's been all hands on deck to get plant orders out after our autumn plant sale and free delivery offer encouraged lots of gardeners to buy and get planting. To help get these orders out as quickly as possible, the garden team helped with the picking and packing. It's great for the team to learn the different processes and systems across the site.

In preparation for colder weather, the team also helped Emily and Debs move Beth's succulent and half-hardy collections back into the greenhouse. A timely job as we had a frost the following morning!
