Landscape Designer, Bernard Trainor, returned to the Gardens after 35 years to join us in celebrating Beth's 100th birthday. Bernard travelled all the way from California to attend last week's celebrations.
He first came to the Gardens in 1988 for a year-long internship around the time that Beth was planning and developing her Gravel Garden.

Bernard kindly gave a talk to the team about his award-winning, landscape design firm, Ground Studio in California which is centred around the climate-appropriate, soil-appropriate. foliage-first philosophy he learned from his time working alongside Beth.

Bernard says, "She had a way of selecting only the plants that fit the climate, fit the soil, and looked beautiful together." He says he also learned from Beth the importance of building a strong, passionate team, creating opportunities to develop and grow whilst carrying forward the underlying principles.

A huge thank you to Bernard for travelling all the way to see us and for sharing stories and memories of Beth.
