The EGT Beth Chatto Writers Prize 2022

Essex Gardens Trust creative garden writing competition in association with The Beth Chatto Education Trust

Writers were invited to submit entries in the form of either fiction (short story or novel extract), or a life-writing memoir in which the garden/landscape is an essential element of character development, plot or creates a specific atmosphere.

The competition was open to writers who live, work and study in Essex.

The three finalists were invited to the Gardens on Saturday 15th October to read their entries.

Beth's Granddaughter Julia said:

'The EGT – BCG writing competition, brainchild of Bella D’Arcy, was marvellous to see materialise. It must have taken a huge amount of drive and administration to achieve – thank you to all involved.  The number of entries was impressive. There was a huge amount of ‘gardening’ talent and thoughtful observation apparent from the readings we heard from the 3 winners.'
