In rich soil this loosestrife forms running clumps of tall stems clothed with narrow green foliage and topped in late summer with shepherd-crook spikes of white starry flowers. During autumn the foliage can turn remarkable hues of orange, through to pink and yellow. Great for insects, including butterflies, with image 3 showing a gatekeeper and a meadow brown in the background and image 5 a magnificent peacock butterfly.
