Hairless evergreen perennial bearing umbels of greeny yellow flowers. It is succulent in nature with leaves triangular in cross section. Excellent choice for coastal gardens. Less popular than marsh samphire for its edibility and for its accessibility, as described in Shakespeare's King Lear "Half-way down hangs one that gathers samphire; dreadful trade!"
