The Beth Chatto Symposium 2024 will host an additional day of events for all symposium attendees on Saturday 31st August, held at Firstsite arts centre in Colchester and at the Beth Chatto Gardens. Talks will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions so you will have the opportunity to attend them all.
The day will include a look at ecological approaches to horticulture in practice, through recent projects, with a particular focus on urban areas.
Saturday talks at The Beth Chatto Gardens
Morning 10am-1pm
Afternoon 2pm-5pm
Julia Boulton and Åsa Gregers-Warg will be looking at the ongoing developments at Beth Chatto’s Gardens and Chattowood.
John Little and Benny Hawksbee will be providing insight into their continually expanding repertoire of techniques to encourage wildlife to occupy urban gardens.
Jo McKerr will be talking about the development of her 2-acre brownfield site on the edge of Bath, which she has spent the last ten years slowly transforming the site into a beautiful progressive wildlife garden.
Richard Scott will discuss his pioneering community based projects in Liverpool over the years and the establishment of the Scouse Flowerhouse linking people with horticulture and ecology.

Darryl Moore will be talking about the Beth Chatto-lead community meanwhile garden next to Firstsite, featuring a unique novel ecosystem mixing spontaneous wild plants with introduced ornamental species, including a guided walk through it.
Errol Reuben Fernandes will reflect on his childhood experience of a brownfield site in London and it’s continued influence on his work today.
Owen Hayman will present some of the incredible public projects that Pictorial Meadows/Green Estate have been working on in Sheffield and surrounding areas.
Peter Korn will be presenting his unique work in urban spaces using drought tolerant plants in sand plantings.
