Chaerophyllum

Similar in appearance to Anthriscus, cow parsley, but with some species preferring a more moisture retentive situation. Also a little more colour range in the airy, umbels of flowers, with white, pink or yellow. Leaves are also fern-like, although C. azoricum has more angelica-like, hairy foliage.

As with all umbellifers, the heads of numerous tiny flowers provide a huge resource of nectar and pollen for a wide range of insects from tiny pollen-beetles to large hoverflies. C. azoricum  is a narrow endemic, known as a native wild plant only from four islands of the Azores archipelago, ex situ cultivation is an important factor in conserving this plant which is specially protected within the EU.
