Highly distinctive brick-red flowers, (the same shade as Acanthus sennii), on strong dark red stems. Leaves emerging later than other varieties. A very choice form of the ginger family. Grow in dappled shade in moist retentive, but free-draining soil.

Synonym Roscoea purpurea 'Red Gurkha'.
