Lathyrus tuberosus

Earth nut

An introduced wild flower, most attractive and interesting, a scrambling, climbing perennial with the roots with small tubers, and bearing long-stalked clusters of crimson or rose sweet pea-like flowers in summer. Once cultivated in Europe for its tubers (sometimes called "Dutch Mice") which contain a large amount of white, sweet, starchy matter said to have an agreeable flavour like that of chestnuts.
